The respected accounting professionals at Whyte & Associates, Inc.
understand a tax audit can make people nervous. You can rest assured
that our team cares about your personal and professional financial
wellbeing. We offer excellent audit services in our Rancho Cucamonga, CA
office to help you regardless of the business you operate or the status
of your personal finances.
Before meeting with the auditor, we will help you thoroughly
review the tax returns to be audited. We will help you organize your
records for the auditor in a logical fashion. We understand tax law. We
will help show an auditor your right to take tax deductions or other tax
benefits claimed on your return.
When preparing for an audit, we will educate you about the
documents required. At a minimum, the IRS will expect the following:
- Bank statements, canceled checks, and receipts
– An auditor will want to see bank records from all of your accounts,
both personal and business. Therefore, it is important to never discard
any business-related canceled sales slips, invoices, or checks. If some
expenses were paid for with cash; you can show the payments with
handwritten notes, petty cash vouchers, or receipts.
- Electronic records – Bank and charge
card statements are accepted by the IRS as proof of payment. However,
they must show the name, date, amount, and address of the payee. Since
charges and statements do not always show the business nature of the
expense, you cannot rely on them as your only records.
- Books and records – The auditor will
ask to see your books. In addition to audit services, we offer
bookkeeping services to help ensure this part of the audit goes as
smoothly as possible. Bookkeeping can be a formal set of books, or
ledgers and journals. Regardless of the type of records you keep, the
auditor is entitled to see them. The auditor will want to see a printout
if all of the data is on a computer.
